Gate-tunable current partition in graphene-based topological zero lines

Abstract: We demonstrate new mechanisms for gate tunable current partition at topological zero-line intersections in a graphene-based current splitter. Based on numerical calculations of the non- a perpendicular magnetic field on the order of a few Teslas allows for carrier sign dependent current routing. In the zero-field limit the control on current routing and partition can be achieved within a range of 10%-90% of the total incoming current by tuning the carrier density at tilted intersections, or by modifying the re… Show more

“…Therefore, the ratio γ ≡ P ab /P ac can deviate from 1. Microscopically, the magnetic field shifts the domain-wall states away from the zero-field positions [34][35][36], and the junction is subsequently modified [37]. We first consider the case where the B field is small and γ can be approximated by its zero-magnetic-field value (i.e., γ = 1).…”

“…25 suggests the observed conductance cannot be attributed to the quantum Hall effect. In addition to enhancing the robustness of the topological chiral channels, the magnetic field provides an external parameter that controls the microscopic properties of the electron modes 21,30 . In particular, we focus on the asymmetric lateral and layer distribution 24 of the electronic wavefunctions due to explicit symmetry breaking by the magnetic field.…”

“…At the intersection between zero lines of quantum valley Hall effect, counterintuitive current partition was reported [36], and later the tunable current partition at multiple intersections was also demonstrated [37]. In these systems, time-reversal invariance guarantees the helical transport of these ZLMs.…”
