Background: Gastrointestinal parasitic diseases remain an obstacle in goat industry in Egypt and worldwide. This study was conducted for assessing the prevalence of the gastrointestinal parasitic infections among goats in Giza Governorate, Egypt. To fulfill this study, examination of 225 fecal samples of live animals kept by small holders was done, as well as postmortem investigation of 135 random slaughtered goats' gastrointestinal tracts was achieved during the period from March to May 2018. Results: The examination of fecal samples revealed that overall prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections among goats was 89.33%. The respective prevalence of kids, yearling, and adults were 89.16%, 98.44%, and 82.05%. The common parasitic infections prevalent were Coccidia spp. (76.89%), Entamoeba spp. (26.22%), Moniezia spp. (18.22%), Strongyle group (12.88%), Trichuris ovis (5.33%), Strongyloides papillosus (3.55%), Balantidium coli (2.66%), and Fasciola spp. (0.89%), successively. Mixed infection was recorded as 61.77% in the examined goats. The present study showed that the prevalence of infection by Coccidia spp., Moniezia spp., and Strongyle group was the highest in the yearling age group. In contrary, the infection prevalence of Entamoeba spp. was significantly high in the adult age group. No significant difference was found relying on the sex of the goats. The post-slaughtering finding showed that Haemonchus contortus was the most prevalent nematode followed by Trichuris ovis and Trichostrongylus axei. Remarkable infection percentage of Taenia hydatigena metacestode (Cysticercus tenuicolli) is recorded in the omentum of the intestine (31.85%). Conclusions: The present study provides basic data about the most prevalent GIP diseases among goats in Giza Governorate, Egypt, which required for evaluation of the followed management and control measures. This work elicited the risk of transmission of some zoonotic diseases via goats. Fecal examination and postmortem finding-based surveys remain of choice particularly in the deprived investigating areas.

In natural ecosystems of animals, introduction of larvae of parasitic nematodes into the litter layer from excrement facilitates their migration and search of new host vertebrate animals. In such conditions they are constantly affected by biologically active substances of the abundant species of plants which grow in pastures. Currently, the influence of substances present in the above-ground part of plants on the vitality of larvae of helminths in the environment remains unstudied. In this article, we present the results of our research on the nematocidial activity in vitro in the aqueous solutions of 21 species of plants distributed in the territory of Steppe Ukraine: Sanguisorba officinalis L., Rosa canina L., Crataegus sanguinea Pall., Crataegus pentagyna Waldst. & Kit. ex Willd., Armeniaca vulgaris Lam., Taraxacum officinale F. H. Wigg., Iva xanthiifolia Nutt., Artemisia campestris L., Arctium minus (Hill) Bernh., Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Cannabis sativa L., Humulus lupulus L., Melilotus officinalis (L.) Pall., Vicia cracca L., Lotus ucrainicus Klok., Onobrychis arenaria (Kit.) DC., Foeniculum vulgare Mill., Eryngium planum L., Conium maculatum L., Juniperus communis L., Thuja occidentalis L. The level of vitality of nematode larvae of the Strongylida (Haemonchus contortus (Rudolphi, 1803)) and Rhabditida (Strongyloides papillosus (Wedl, 1856)) orders varied depending on the species of plant, and also five experimental concentrations in aqueous solutions tested in seven replications. The most notable nematocidial effect was exerted by Taraxacum officinale F. H. Wigg. – we observed death of larvae of third stage development L3 H. contortus and larvae of first-third stages L1–3 S. papillosus at 24 h exposure to 3% aqueous solution. Three percent aqueous solutions of S. officinalis and A. artemisiifolia displayed nematocidial properties only against S. papillosus: death of L1–3 S. papillosus was observed. Aqueous solutions of R. canina, A. vulgaris, A. minus, H. lupulus, V. cracca, L. ucrainicus, O. arenaria, E. planum, C. maculatum, J. communis, Th. occidentalis had lethal effect only on non-invasive larvae (larvae of the first and second stage L1–2) of S. papillosus. They displayed no nematocidial properties towards invasive larvae of H. contortus and S. papillosus. At exposure to aqueous solutions of the rest of the studied species of plants, over 50% of L3 H. contortus and L1–3 S. papillosus larvae remained alive. The determined patterns allow us to state that while living in the litter and soil in the root zone of plants nematode larvae undergoa negative influence caused by some plant species.

У багатьох країнах світу козівництво є важливою традиційною та стратегічною галуззю еко-номіки, що зумовлено її поліпродуктивністю. Ця галузь забезпечує населення найбільш цінними про-дуктами харчування – молоком і м’ясом, а переробну промисловість – сировиною. Також сприяє ін-тенсивному використанню земельних ресурсів та формуванню продовольчої безпеки населення Укра-їни на основі створення необхідних державних резервів тваринницької продукції. Дослідження вико-нували в лабораторії кафедри паразитології та іхтіопатології Львівського національного універси-тету ветеринарної медицини та біотехнологій імені С. З. Ґжицького. Яйця Trichuris ovis виділяли з гонад самок трихурисів, збір яких проводили методом повного гельмінтологічного розтину товстого відділу кишечника загиблих або вимушено забитих кіз. За результатами проведених досліджень встановлено, що яйця нематод кіз T. ovis в лабораторних умовах незалежно від температурного режиму проходять 7 стадій ембріогенезу: протопласта, утворення двох бластомерів, утворення трьох і більше бластомерів, бобоподібного зародка, пуголовки, формування личинки, утворення рух-ливої личинки. Доведено, що терміни розвитку яєць до інвазійної стадії та ступінь їкьої життєзда-тності залежить від температури культивування. Найбільш оптимальним режимом для розвитку яєць T. ovis in vitro виявилася температура 20 °С, за якої їхня життєздатність становила 85,33±1,53 %. При цьому зупинку в розвитку та загибель спостерігали у 14,67±1,53 % яєць триху-рисів цього виду. За умови температурного режиму 24 °С та 28 °С кількість яєць з інвазійною личи-нкою, що утворювалися в культурі, зменшувалася і становила 83,33±1,20 та 78,33±2,03 %. Припиня-ло свій розвиток відповідно 16,67±1,20 та 21,67±2,03 % яєць. Водночас зі збільшенням температур-ного режиму терміни завершення ембріогенезу скорочувалися. За температури 20 °С розвиток за-кінчувався за 39 діб і був найбільш тривалим. За температури 24 °С утворення інвазійних яєць відбу-валося за 30 діб, а за температури 28 °С – за 27 діб. Залежно від температурного фактору стадія протопласта відбувалася впродовж 1–18 діб, утворення двох бластомерів – 3–18 діб, трьох і більше бластомерів – 3–21 доби, бобоподібного зародка – 6–30 діб, пуголовки – 12–33 діб, формування личи-нки – 15–36 діб, утворення рухливої личинки – 18–39 діб.
