Gastrin releasing peptide receptor targeted nano-graphene oxide for near-infrared fluorescence imaging of oral squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignant tumor that occurs in the oral mucosa. Pathological biopsy is still the current gold standard for OSCC diagnosis; however, some drawbacks need to be overcome. Therefore, it is urgently needed to find a non-invasive targeted technology for OSCC early diagnosis. Fluorescent optical imaging using near infrared (NIR) dyes tagged to tumor specific target will benefit such developments. Gastrin releasing peptide receptor (GRPR) is an attractive target f… Show more

“…DOX@NGO-BBN-AF750 exhibited good water dispersity. The size and overall nanoparticle morphology of DOX@NGO-BBN-AF750 were similar to those of NGO and NGO-BBN-AF750 observed under TEM ( 48 ). The nanoparticles appeared as two-dimensional flacks with the diameter range of 0.5–5 µm and thickness of 0.8–1.2 nm.…”

“…First, NGO-BBN-AF750 nanoprobes were synthesized and purified according to the procedures in our previous article ( 48 ). Briefly, NGO-COOH and AF750-6Ahx-Sta-BBN were added in Tris–HCl buffer, stirred for 40 min in the dark, and centrifuged, and the supernatant was removed to obtain NGO-BBN-AF750.…”

“…On the other hand, NGO-BBN-AF750 showed good cellular internalization capabilities compared to the peptide antagonist AF750-6Ahx-Sta-BBN. This work revealed how nanoparticle-based delivery systems can enable OSCC-targeted near-infrared fluorescence imaging in a non-invasive manner [ 164 ].…”

“…This new nanocarrier showed in vitro cellular uptake and killing potential for some cancer cell lines ( Liu et al, 2008 ). Subsequently, GO was conjugated with biopolymers ( Mirzaie et al, 2019 ), biomolecules ( Li R. et al, 2020 ), metals ( Kordi et al, 2019 ; Cobos et al, 2020 ), and metal oxides ( Luo Y. et al, 2019 ; Pramanik et al, 2019 ) to create intelligent nanoplatforms able to respond at every stage of the cancer treatment process, from targeting to imaging and therapy. Recently Burnett et al (2020) considered, for the first time, GO not as a platform for drug transport or photothermal therapy, but as the therapy itself on human osteosarcoma cancer cells.…”
