Gastric Ulcer Bleeding associated with a Left Gastric Artery Pseudoaneurysm

Abstract: A left gastric artery (LGA) pseudoaneurysm is known to occur as a complication of abdominal surgery, trauma, or pancreatitis. However, an LGA pseudoaneurysm presenting with gastrointestinal bleeding is rare. A 77-year-old man complained of dizziness and three episodes of melena in the last 24 hours. He did not have a history of surgery, trauma, or pancreatitis. He underwent primary coronary intervention for unstable angina and started dual antiplatelet therapy 1 month prior. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) re… Show more

“…In addition, H. pylori bacteria colonize about 40%–50% of people in the world. 14 Although the cause of pseudoaneurysms due to gastric ulcers is rare with only 2 other cases reported, 2 , 3 its rupture can be catastrophic. Unfortunately, due to the rarity of gastric ulcer causing LGA pseudoaneurysms, we do not know the risk of its rupture once formed.…”

“… 1 Peptic ulcer disease can result in gastric artery pseudoaneurysm, however, because we found only 2 other case reports documenting this presentation, it seems to be extremely rare. 2 , 3 More commonly, pseudoaneurysms are associated with chronic pancreatitis with the risk of mortality because of rupture ranging from 40% to 80%. 4 Owing to the increased risk of mortality from a rupture of pseudoaneurysm, it is important to highlight a rare case of left gastric artery (LGA) pseudoaneurysm hemorrhage.…”
