Gastric perforation caused by Strongyloides stercoralis: a case report

Abstract: Stronglodiasis, Strongyloides stercoralis'in dişi nematodları tarafından oluşturulan bir parazitozdur. S. stercoralis olguların %50'sinde asemptomatik olan ve mideyi etkileyebilen kronik bir enfeksiyon oluşturur. Mide tutulumu genelde gastriti taklit eden bulgulara neden olur. Biz burada 37 yaşındaki kadın hastada S. stercoralis'e bağlı oluş-tuğunu düşündüğümüz bir mide delinmesi olgusunu sunuyoruz.Anahtar Sözcükler: Strongyloides stercoralis; mide tutulumu; delinme.Strongyloidiasis is a parasitosis caused by … Show more

“…A few patients with gastric Estrongiloidiasis may evolve to gastroduodenal ulcers and gastric perforation [9,10] . Seo et al [7] described a case of gastric involvement associated to a gastric adenocarcinoma, which emphasizes the importance of more accurate diagnostic tools in high risk patients for cancer [8] .…”

“…Some alternative diagnostic tools (antigens and molecular diagnosis) have been proposed, but they are not available for clinical use in many hospitals [12,13] . The endoscopic findings are usually nonspecific and may show thickened gastric folds, mucosal erosions and ulcers [1,9,10] .…”

“…Among these pathogens are bacteria, such as Helicobacter pylori, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Treponema pallidum and Histoplasma capsulatum, and viruses, such as cytomegalovirus, which causes gastric granulomas in patients with poor nutrition, alcoholism, HIV and other conditions triggered by immune suppression (Wang and Peura, 2011). Several enteric nematodes can be transmitted orally, such as Anisakis simplex, Pseudoterranova decipiens and Strongyloides stercoralis (Ozturk et al 2011).…”

“…This is related to a deficient T helper 2 (Th2) immune response, so it is difficult to control the multiplication of huge number of larvae. Additional ulcers/lesion caused by F-form larvae, with possible destruction of muscular layers, which may lead to perforation, are also seen [76,77].…”
