“…However, as has been reported by Arndt, Baltzer, and L6hr (36), much greater disturbances in arterial oxygen tension and saturation are found in patients with chronic renal failure and pulmonary interstitial edema. In their patients, some of whom were young men and hence not likely to have ventilation: perfusion ratio disturbances due to obstructive airway disease, an inverse correlation was found between the severity of the edema, as judged by the roentgenological evidence, and the arterial oxygen tension.…”
