Gas Release Characteristics in Coal under Different Stresses and Their Impact on Outbursts

Abstract: The impact mechanism of in situ stress on outbursts plays a key role in the prevention of outbursts during deep coal mining. The in situ stress may influence the outburst by affecting the gas release intensity according to theoretical analysis, but none of the existing studies have taken into consideration this perspective. To explore whether the influence of in situ stress on gas release in coal is an important reason for stress-induced outbursts, experiments on gas release in coal under different axial stres… Show more

“…High stress may lock in the gas energy before detection and disturbance; high stress does not necessarily mean a high gas content or pressure, but high gas generally means high stress, making stress the triggering and inducing factor of coal and gas outbursts. All of this provides energy storage conditions and dynamic conditions for coal and gas outbursts [39].…”

“…Han obtained geostress characteristics in outburst mining areas through an analysis of measured data and discussed the role of geostress in gas outbursts. Wang proved through experiments that the change in gas release intensity caused by the change in the in situ stress is essential in inducing coal and gas outbursts . Furthermore, air pressure can change the mechanical properties of coal, which leads to higher air pressure, greater released energy, , and higher outburst intensity.…”

Jia 3 combined the characteristics of coal and gas outbursts in this area, discussed the influence of structural stress fields on the geological structure distribution, gas storage, and structural coal development, and further studied the influence of structural stress fields on coal and gas outbursts.…”
