Gas production mechanism of Irgamet 39 and its long‐term corrosion resistance

Abstract: The phenomenon of transformer failure caused by oil‐sulphur corrosion of oil₋paper insulation system has always been concerned by scholars. Irgamet 39 is the most used metal passivator for inhibiting sulphur corrosion. However, Irgamet 39 causes abnormal dissolved gas in oil during the process of exerting anti‐corrosion effect. Herein, the gas production mechanism of Irgamet 39 and its long‐term corrosion resistance were investigated. Compared with other metal passivators, the Irgamet 39 produces more dissolve… Show more

“…From the outer environmental impact factors, temperatures [13,18], oxygen [19], electric field [20], and related synergistic effects [21,22] were the research hotspots. From the inner oilpaper insulating system, scholars have recently focused on the following points: thiophene (C 4 H 4 S) degradation in various oil brands [23,24], gas production of passivators in oils [25,26], the moisture in the oil-paper system [27,28], and the cellulose structure of oil-impregnated paper [29] etc.…”

“…Transformers are important equipment in power systems, and their stable operation is crucial to the supply of high-quality electrical energy [1]. Transformers mainly use oil-paper insulation structures, but during operation, the oil-paper insulation material will gradually age and decompose, and dissolve a small amount of gases, such as H 2 , CH 4 , C 2 H 6 , C 2 H 2 , C 2 H 4 , CO, and CO 2 [2]. Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) technology can detect potential faults inside the transformer and track its development trend based on changes in gas component content, proportion and relative percentage [2][3][4][5].…”

The change pattern and trend analysis of dissolved gases in transformer oil can be used for early diagnosis of internal faults in transformers [6,7].…”
