Gas Phase Oxidation of Toluene and Ethyl Acetate over Proton and Cobalt Exchanged ZSM-5 Nano Catalysts- Experimental Study and ANN Modeling

Abstract: Activities of nanostructure HZSM-5 and Co-ZSM-5 catalysts (with different Co-loading) for catalytic conversion of ethyl acetate and toluene were studied. The catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and were characterized by XRD, BET, SEM, TEM and ICP-AES techniques. Catalytic studies were carried out inside a U-shaped fixed bed reactor under atmospheric pressure and different temperatures. Toluene showed lower reactivity than ethyl acetate for conversion on Co-ZSM-5 catalysts. The effect of Co loadi… Show more

“…Since the oxidation behavior of these compounds in the single form differs from that in mixtures, we investigated the oxidation behavior in mixed forms. 3,19 In order to determine the inhibition/promotion effect of each organic compound on the other's oxidation over a catalyst, it is common to consider the VOC binary mixture. 3,19 Therefore, we considered VOC binary mixtures of isopropanol/benzyl alcohol (the most reactive and mean reactive components, respectively) and MEK/benzyl alcohol (the least reactive and mean reactive components) with different natures on the most active catalyst (Mn/ γ -Al 2 O 3 ).…”

“…Catalytic combustion offers environmental advantages, since it operates at much lower temperatures, avoiding formation of nitrogen oxides. 3,4 Base metal oxides, like Cu, Mn, and Cr, and supported noble metals catalysts (Pt, Pa) have been used so far in catalytic combustion of VOCs. The high cost of noble metals has increased the interest in substitution, since transitive metal oxides may fulfill the requirements.…”

“…Mesoporous materials continued to be a popular research area because of their large surface area and structural support. Transition metal loaded materials have been reported for a wide range of oxidative reactions, including gas phase oxidation of toluene and ethyl acetate using Co-loaded zeolite sieve ZSM-5, 433 solvent free selective oxidation of cyclohexane over transition metal incorporated hexagonal mesoporous silica molecular sieve HMS 434 and carbon monoxide oxidation by the mesoporous silica SBA-15 supported nano-gold catalysts (in Chinese). 435 A range of analytical techniques, namely XRD, TEM, SEM, XPS, BET, XRF and ICP-OES were typically used for characterisation purposes.…”

“…The multilayer perception network was trained to model the mechanical behaviour in single filaments after loading of fatigue. Catalytic conversion of two substrates namely, ethyl acetate and toluene, using two nanostructures catalysts HZSM-5 and Co-ZSM-5 was investigated by Hosseini et al (Hosseini et al, 2010). The ANNs model was based on experimental data from wet impregnation prepared catalysts.…”
