Gas‐phase ion chemistry in organometallic systems

Abstract: This review essentially deals with positive ion/molecule reactions occurring in gas-phase organometallic systems, and encompasses a period of time of approximately 7 years, going from 1997 to early 2004. Following the example of the excellent review by Eller & Schwarz (1991; Chem Rev 91:1121-1177), in the first part, results of reaction of naked ions are presented by grouping them according to the neutral substrate, while in the second part, ligated ions are grouped according to the different ligands. Whenever… Show more

“…The [1 dppp ] 2 + ion (m/z 303.6) formed in the ESI source was sub-A C H T U N G T R E N N U N G mitted to CAR conditions with a mixture of enyne 2 and CH 3 CN, water, or CHCl 3 , introduced together in the collision cell (ratio % 1:100). [21,22] The lower internal energy of the [1 dppp + 3] 2 + ions suggests that H 2 O is the first ligand bound. [18] Conversely, CH 3 CN mainly solvated the [1 dppp ] 2 + complex, leading to the complex becoming nonreactive.…”

“…Several excellent reviews are available in the literature [30,[52][53][54][55]. Meanwhile, reactivity of TMOs cluster ions toward various gas phase molecules has been extensively investigated with emphasis on understanding the important step(s), such as bond activation, in practical catalytic cycles [26,[56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63]. Since mass spectrometric techniques are widely used for this research, most studies of TMOs cluster reactivity are for ionic TMOs clusters.…”

“…one that is accessible in solution). Those interested in more exotic examples (e.g., naked or highly coordinatively unsaturated metal ions) are directed to excellent reviews on this fascinating topic by Schwarz and others [16,17]. We will not describe the instrumentation at all, and readers are directed to the original articles for detailed experiment descriptions.…”
