Gas Phase Computational Study of Diclofenac Adsorption on Chitosan Materials

Abstract: Environmental pollution with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and their metabolites exposes living organisms on their long-lasting, damaging influence. Hence, the ways of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) removal from soils and wastewater is sought for. Among the potential adsorbents, biopolymers are employed for their good availability, biodegradability and low costs. The first available theoretical modeling study of the interactions of diclofenac with models of pristine chitosan and its mod… Show more

“…Absorbing materials, i.e., graphene oxide (pyrene, GO-1 and coronene-based, GO-2) and chitosan were simulated as dimers due to the high computational cost of modelling polymeric structures. Nevertheless, several works have represented these types of compounds in these forms [ 41 , 74 , 75 , 76 , 77 , 78 ].…”

“…Diclofenac (C 14 H 11 ClNO 2 ), a nonsteroidal benzene acetic acid derivative with potent anti-inflammatory activity, is mostly primed by acid-catalyzed cyclization of N -(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-α-(methyl sulfinyl) acetanilide. It was first synthesized by Alfred Sallman and Rudolf Fister in 1973 during a search for anti-inflammatory agents . Diclofenac (DFN) is a constellate acid of diclofenac (-1) .…”

“…It was first synthesized by Alfred Sallman and Rudolf Fister in 1973 1 during a search for anti-inflammatory agents. 2 Diclofenac (DFN) is a constellate acid of diclofenac (-1). 3 As a result, diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAIM), binds and chelates with COX-1 and COX-2 variants, inhibiting arachidonic acid (AA); an essential fatty acid derived from omega-6, from being converted into proinflammatory prostaglandins (PG), physiologically vital eicosanoid.…”
