“…It was considered that an essential preliminary to the successful determination of 4M26B was a satisfactory method of separating it from the matrix, and to this end various separation techniques were tried including extraction (9), chromatography (10) and steam distillation (8,7,12). None proved adequate, but the observation that methanol added to the boiler before steam distillation gave improved recoveries led to the development of a very effective procedure, and the fact that the antioxidant was quantitatively transferred to an aqueous methanol medium considerably simplified its subsequent determination.…”
