Gas exchange in young Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. Ex A. Juss.) Müll. Arg. (Euphorbiaceae) plants in Antioquia (Colombia)

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the behavior of the rubber plant Hevea brasiliensis regarding its photosynthetic performance in the rubber producer regions in Nordeste and Bajo Cauca, in the department of Antioquia, Colombia, as a baseline for future clonal performance studies among environments. Gas exchange was recorded using a portable infrared gas analyzer, and for the photosynthetic parameters for seven genotypes (clones) a medium value was calculated and was later used to estimate the area under t… Show more

“…In this sense, Córdoba‐Gaona et al. (2018) consider it necessary to know the behavior of natural rubber plantations and the functioning of different genotypes in rubber‐producing zones of Colombia to determine relationships between climatic characteristics with defoliation‐refoliation patterns and their dynamics with the occurrence of diseases. In a complementary way, Rivano et al.…”

“…With the improvement and precision of the current geographic information systems, it is necessary to carry out new zoning by a biophysical aptitude for the crop and the determination of escape zones in Colombia. New agroecological zoning based on updated edaphic and climatic information will allow Colombian producers to decide to cultivate rubber in the areas that have the best environmental conditions (Córdoba‐Gaona et al., 2018). There is a relationship between the latex yield of natural rubber trees and the climatic and edaphic variables of the regions where this species is planted (Rao et al., 1998).…”
