L-asparaginase is used in chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia and other cancers. L-asparaginase derived from bacterial source triggers immune responses. The current study investigates Solanum nigrum as a novel and latent source of L-asparaginase to minimize immunological reactions. The antitumor activity of SN methanol extract was determined using the potato disc assay. InterPro Chimera and InterPro were used to predict the amino acid sequence of L-asparaginase and its anticancer activity. Purification of the enzyme was carried out to homogeneity of 1.51-fold with a recovery of 61.99%. At optimal conditions of 36.5°C, pH 8.6, and 8.5 g/mL substrate, fruit (crude extract) revealed an L-asparaginase titer of 48.23 U/mL. The molecular weight of the enzyme was calculated to be 32 ± 5 kDa using SDS PAGE. The fruit’s total flavonoids and phenolic contents are 0.42 ± .030 g/mL and 94 ± 1.9 mg CAE, respectively. Anti-tumorigenic efficacy was determined to be 66% against Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Additionally, the extract possesses potent antifungal and antibacterial properties. Molecular docking provided the structural motifs and underlying interactions between L-asparaginase, N-acetylglucosamine, murine, and chitin. SN contains high levels of the enzyme L-asparaginase and phytochemicals, making it a potential source of anticancer drugs.

The increasing demand for effective and natural anti-inflammatory agents prompts an investigation into the properties of Sonneratia caseolaris (L.) Engl., a plant traditionally used in medicine. This study aimed to explore the ability of S. caseolaris leaves extract to inhibit inflammation and accelerate wound healing. S. caseolaris leaves were collected from Tanjung Api-Api area, Banyuasin, South Sumatra. The method involved carrageenan induction in rat paws as an inflammatory model. The results showed that the most effective dose was found in the group with a dose of 150 mg/kg BW measured using a digital caliper and plethysmometer. The qualitative phytochemical test contain alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, and phenols. The results GC-MS analysis were thought to contain aldehydes, glucosinolates, coumarins, esters, terpenoids, alcohols, lipids, tocopherols, and steroids. Due to their diverse range of mechanisms of action, coumarins show significant promise in mitigating inflammation and hold potential for treating inflammatory conditions. This study provides new insights related to the potential of S. caseolaris as a source of natural anti-inflammatory agents, supporting public comprehension regarding the utilization of traditional herbal remedies.

Due to environmental changes, the self-defense mechanism can be found in bioactive compounds production. As a potential resource, the activity of bioactive compounds contained in mangroves can produce a variety of natural products that are widely used in pharmaceuticals and food supplements. 3 Secondary metabolites in mangrove plants include alkaloids, phenolics, steroids, terpenoids, and other compounds. 8 These compounds have important toxic, pharmacological, and ecological effects. 5 Mangrove plant extracts show biological activities such as antioxidants, antibacterials, and antimalarials. 9 The activity of antioxidant compounds can play a role in inhibiting free radicals that cause cell damage or slow oxidation reactions, even at small concentrations. Because of its association with beneficial health effects against a variety of diseases, there has been an increase in interest in the application of this antioxidant in the field of medicine in recent years, such as cardiovascular, cancer, cataract, atherosclerosis, retinopathy, arthritis, emphysema, and neuro-degenerative. 10 In addition, natural antioxidant compounds are significant in the health sector and have a direct effect on the food industry as natural preservatives for food products.Research on the activity of bioactive compounds in mangrove leaves has been carried out in recent years, phytochemical content and toxicity effects to Avicennia marina, 7 and utilization of mangrove leaf extract of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza with various solvents has been studied as an antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant. 11 antioxidant activity of from Sonneratia caseolaris extract has been studied as super antioxidant. 12 Moreover, the phenolic properties of mangrove plants and the activity of their strong bioactive compounds have been discussed in many studies. However, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have caused organic contamination in the Tanjung Api-Api Port area.
