The levels of 16 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in surface water in Mid-Black Sea Region in Turkey were investigated to evaluate their potential pollution and risks. The analysis of OCPs extracted by C-18 solid phase extract was performed using Fisions Mega II Series gas chromatograph coupled by electron capture detector. Surface water samples have been collected seasonally from ten rivers for a period of 1 year. The most commonly encountered OCPs in surface water were the isomers of hexachlorocyclohexane, dieldrin, p,p-DDD, and heptachlor epoxide. In some cases the concentrations detected were higher than the qualitative target levels set by the European Union, especially for δ-hexachlorocyclohexane. The concentration levels found are lower than the EU maximum acceptable concentration of 0.10 μg/l for all compounds examined, except for δ-HCH in two samples (0.2505 μg l −1 in the S-5 and 0.2046 μg l −1 in the S-10). A new procedure for determining eleven organo-chlorine pesticides in soils using microwave-assisted ex-traction (MAE) and headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) is described. The studied pesticides consisted of mirex, α-and γ-chlordane, p,p′-DDT, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide isomer A, γ-hexachlorocyclohexane, dieldrin, endrin, aldrine and hexachlorobenzene. The HS-SPME was optimized for the most important parameters such as extraction time, sample volume and temperature. The present analytical procedure requires a reduced volume of organic solvents and avoids the need for extract clean-up steps. For optimized conditions the limits of detection for the method ranged from 0.02 to 3.6 ng/g, intermediate precision ranged from 14 to 36% (as CV%), and the recovery from 8 up to 51%. The proposed methodology can be used in the rapid screening of soil for the presence of the selected pesticides, and was applied to landfill soil samples.

Quenching of lanthanides luminescence of a novel long live Tb(III) -Ethyl 1-Allyl-1,2-Dihydro-4-Hydroxy-2-Oxoquinoline-3-Carboxylate (EADHOC) as a ligand to form a complex with molar ratio 1:3 in solution has been studied in ethanol in presence of organophosphorus pesticides both Di-chlorvos(P1) and paraoxon-Ethyl (P2). The intensity of luminescence of Tb(III) -(EADHOC) decrease as the concentration of pesticides increase. The quenching effect was observed with both pesticides. Direct methods of determination of pesticides under investigated have been developed by using luminescence of Tb(III) -(EADHOC) probe in a solution. The linear range for determination of the selected pesticides P1(Di-chlorovos) and P2(Paraoxon-Ethyl) is1 to 7 and 1 to 10 µM. the detection limits were 1.9×10-7and 9.8×10-7 µM for P1(Di-chlorovos) and P2(Paraoxon-Ethyl) respectively. The Thermodynamic parameters and binding constant (K) of OPs with Tb(III) -(EADHOC) were evaluated. Including the value of enthalpy (∆H ) and entropy( ∆S ) changes for Probe interaction with pesticides. As the natural water sample in this study don't contain the above mentioned OPs over the limit detected by the methods, a recovery study was carried out after the addition of the adequate amount of organophosphorus pesticides.
