Gas Bubble Diameter and Rise Velocities in Tapered Fluidized Beds: Experiment and Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation

Abstract: The two-dimensional two-fluid model (TFM) incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow was used to simulate the hydrodynamic behavior of gas bubbles in tapered fluidized beds. Because numerous previous works conducted were mainly focused on the hydrodynamic behavior of the beds such as pressure drop, minimum fluidization velocity, and bed expansion ratio, it is required to investigate one of the most significant parameters in tapered fluidized beds (i.e., gas bubble diameter and rising velocity). The expe… Show more

“…As the gas velocity increases, the diameter and rising velocity of the gas bubbles also increase. 40 This improvement facilitates better solids mixing and the upward transportation of heavier solid particles toward the bed surface. Additionally, the axial velocity of the gas within the bed increases with larger inlet gas velocities, further enhancing solids mixing.…”

“…Based on the outcomes of our previous investigation, it was determined that the Syamlal-O’Brien drag model yields the most accurate predictions for the gas bubble behavior within our gas–solid tapered bed. Consequently, the Syamlal-O’Brien model was employed to evaluate the drag force ( F d ( iϵk · m ) ).…”
