ABSTRACT. In the Guarguaraz Complex of the Argentine Frontal Cordillera (latitude 33.3°S) serpentinite lenses, metabasites, and garnet-bearing metasedimentary rocks occur. The corresponding Devonian metamorphic event was assigned to the formation of an accretionary wedge by previous authors. We have tested this hypothesis by investigating the metamorphic evolution of a pelite from this complex. Garnet in this rock shows a well evolved prograde zoning. Potassic white mica with Si contents between 3.38 (core) and 3.12 (rim) per formula unit, biotite, quartz and plagioclase, which have formed late blasts at the expense of amphibole, coexist with this phase. On the basis of P-T pseudosections and water-absent equilibria, we have estimated the subsequent P-T path for the studied metapelite. The garnet core formed at about 8 kbar and 470-500°C. After nearly isothermal burial to 45 km (13.5 kbar) where Si-rich phengites grew, temperatures increased followed by exhumation and an overprint stage at 8 kbar and 565°C. This P-T path is not compatible with the idea of an accretionary wedge complex. It is more likely that the high-pressure conditions were attained by thickening of continental crust when the hypothetical Chilenia terrane collided with the continental margin of western Gondwana in Devonian times. Evolución P-T de metapelitas del Complejo Guarguaraz, Argentina: evidencia para el engrosamiento cortical Devónico en cercanías del margen occidental de Gondwana. En el Complejo Guarguaraz, ubicado en la Cordillera Frontal de Argentina (latitud 33,3ºS), se encuentran lentes de serpentinita, metabasitas y metasedimentitas de granate. De acuerdo con autores previos, el evento metamórfico asociado ha sido asignado a la formación de un complejo de prisma de acreción en el Devónico. Esta hipótesis ha sido evaluada con el estudio metamórfico de una metapelita del complejo. El granate en la roca muestra una zonación prógrada bien desarrollada. Micas blancas potásicas, con contenidos de Si entre 3,38 (núcleo) y 3,12 (borde) por fórmula unitaria, biotita, cuarzo y plagioclasa, coexisten con granate. Sobre la base de seudosecciones de presión y temperatura y equilibrios anhidros, hemos estimado la trayectoria P-T para la metapelita estudiada. El núcleo del granate se formó en condiciones cercanas a los 8 kbar y 470-500ºC. Después de un enterramiento isotermal hasta 45 km (13,5 kbar), condiciones en las que la fengita rica en Si se formó, aumentó la temperatura y ocurrió la exhumación y una etapa de sobreimposición metamórfica a 8 kbar y 560°C. Esta trayectoria P-T no es compatible con el desarrollo de un complejo de prisma de acreción. Es más probable que las condiciones de alta presión fueran alcanzadas durante el engrosamiento de la corteza continental cuando el hipotético terreno de Chilenia colisionó con el margen continental de Gondwana en el Devónico.

Предпринято изучение двух контрастных по составу метаморфических комплексов Енисейского кряжа для выяснения особенностей их тектонотермальной эволюции и геодинамических процессов в ри-фейской геологической истории региона. По результатам геолого-структурных, минералого-петрологи-ческих и изотопно-геохронологических исследований были выделены два этапа в их развитии, различаю-щиеся термодинамическими режимами и величинами метаморфических градиентов. Полиметаморфизм достаточно четко отслеживается по реакционным структурам и химической зональности минералов, конфигурации Р-Т трендов и изотопным датировкам. В тейском ореоле на первом этапе сформировались зональные метаморфические комплексы низких давлений LP/HT (Р = 3.9-5.1 кбар, Т = 510-640 °С) андалузит-силлиманитового типа с возрастом ~ 970 млн лет при типичном для орогенеза метаморфи-ческом градиенте dT/dH = 25-35 °С/км. На втором этапе эти породы подверглись позднерифейскому (853-849 млн лет) коллизионному метаморфизму умеренных давлений кианит-силлиманитового типа (P = 5.7-7.2 кбар, Т = 660-700 °С) с низким dT/dH < 12 °С/км. Синхронно с этим процессом вблизи гранитоидных плутонов проявлен контактовый метаморфизм позднерифейского (862 млн лет) возраста с высоким dT/dH > 100 °С/км. В пределах приенисейской региональной сдвиговой зоны наиболее глу-бинные блоки пород гаревского комплекса испытали на первом этапе метаморфизм повышенных дав-лений в условиях амфиболитовой фации в узком интервале Р = 7.1-8.7 кбар и Т = 580-630 °С, что соответствует их погружению в средние части континентальной коры при метаморфическом градиенте с dT/dH около 20-25 °С/км. На втором этапе эти породы подверглись позднерифейскому (900-850 млн лет) син эксгумационному динамометаморфизму в условиях эпидот-амфиболитовой фации (Р = 3.9-4.9 кбар, Т = 460-550 °С) при низком градиенте с dT/dH < 10 °С/км с формированием комплексов бластомилонитов в сдвиговых зонах. По времени все эти деформационно-метаморфические события соответствуют завершающей эпохе позднегренвильской складчатости. Выявленные деформационно-ме-таморфические события в западном обрамлении Сибирского кратона подтверждают тесную пространс-твенную связь Сибири и Лаврентии в раннем неопротерозое, что согласуется c современными палеомаг-нитными реконструкциями. Eclogite facies rocks along the Paleozoic active margin of Gondwana are rare. They are limited to isolated segments of Northern Victoria Land (Antarctica), western Tasmania, and southeastern Australia. New petrological data for mafic rocks and their host garnet-kyanite schists from the Franklin Metamorphic Complex (western Tasmania) permit reconstruction of six main stages of mineral growth for the eclogite. Stages I and II occurred at greenschist/ amphibolite-facies conditions (ca. 500-600°C; 0.55-0.7 GPa for stage II) before attaining high-pressure conditions (at ≈600-650°C; N 1.5 GPa for stage III). The following stages, IV and V, record the decompression from high-pressure conditions to amphibolite-facies (ca. 500-600°C; 0.4-1.0 GPa). Finally, stage VI represents the late greenschist-facies retrogression. However, the pelitic schist surrounding the eclogite records only the mediumpressure amphibolite-facies stage. The P-T evolution over time outlines a clockwise path that is quite steep in both the prograde and retrograde segments. The latter shows a nearly isothermal decompression between the eclogite and the high-pressure amphibolite-facies stage IV, which was achieved at deep crustal levels (≈30 km), and a final decrease in both pressure and temperature from deep/intermediate to shallow crustal levels, with a typical cooling-unloading path. The lack of a complete re-equilibration during the different stages and the high dP/dT for both the prograde and retrograde paths are indicative of a rapid burial and initially rapid exhumation. The similarity of the mafic whole-rock chemical composition, including N, T to E-MORB and of the peak metamorphic age (≈500 Ma) between the Tasmanian eclogites and the UHP rocks from Northern Victoria Land, supports the idea that they formed in the context of the same contractional event. However, the different P-T conditions and dP/dT point to different tectono-metamorphic settings for the two sectors of the paleo-Pacific margin of Gondwana during the Ross/Tyennan orogeny.
