Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid Promotes Beige Adipocyte Reconstruction by Modulating the Gut Microbiota in Obese Mice

Abstract: Given the increasing prevalence of obesity, the white-to-beige adipocyte conversion has attracted interest as a target for obesity treatment. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) treatment can reduce obesity, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the mechanism by which GABA triggers weight loss by improving the beiging of inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT) and the role of gut microbiota in this process. The results showed that GABA reduced body weight and adipose inflammation … Show more

“…The effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) on obese mice fed a high-fat diet, and their gut microbiota composition, were investigated [ 59 ]. It has already been shown that the types and amount of bacteria in the intestines play an important role in metabolism, and have an impact on the formation and development of obesity [ 60 ].…”

“…GABA treatment also increased the concentration of ketone bodies and adipocyte beige, and decreased the lipid oxidation. It can therefore be concluded that GABA has a significant effect on reducing body fat, and is a non-invasive method of reducing the body circumference [ 59 ].…”
