Game jam

Abstract: Recent years have witnessed a rise in Game Jamsorganized events to create playable prototypes in a very short time frame. Game Jams offer a unique and quick way to prototype games. Beyond that, we believe Game Jams can also be seen as a design research method, situated in the research-through-design tradition, to create knowledge in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The goal of this Game Jam is thus twofold: first, participants will use the Game Jam approach to investigate a research question; second, p… Show more

“…As the experience reached its climax, we gave some instructions where body contact was a more direct outcome, like "two players touch someone else's leg with their controllers". In our early evaluation of playtests held during our game jam design process [1], we find intangle encourages players to playfully and safely test social and personal boundaries of contact through game play. We allow room for these explorations to occur by inviting rather than enforcing body contact.…”

“…Games [4Diversity] (Games4Diversity, n.d.), games for research (Deen et al, 2014), and Games [4Health] (Games for Health Game Jam, 2014) are some significant examples in which a more "serious" topic is on the table for the jamming event. As seen in these examples, game jamming has a potential that can be leveraged for social exploration.…”
