Galaxies in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field. I. Detection, Multiband Photometry, Photometric Redshifts, and Morphology

Abstract: We present aperture-matched PSF-corrected BV i ′ z ′ JH photometry and Bayesian photometric redshifts (BPZ) for objects detected in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (UDF), 8,042 of which are detected at the 10-σ level (e.g., i ′ < 29.01 or z ′ < 28.43). Most of our objects are defined identically to those in the public STScI catalogs, enabling straightforward object-by-object comparison. We have combined detections from i ′ , z ′ , J+H, and B+V +i ′ +z ′ images into a single comprehensive segmentation map. Using a … Show more

“…At a limiting magnitude i=28 mag, the median uncertainty is dz 0.5 photo , and it reaches dz 1 photo at » i 30 mag (Coe et al 2006). The compilation of Skelton et al (2014) provides even more robust photometric redshifts, thanks to the expanded photometric data set.…”

“…The main sources for the photometry are the compilations by Coe et al (2006) and Skelton et al (2014). The former includes optical photometry based on the original Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Advanced Camera for Survey (ACS) images of the Hubble UDF (Beckwith et al 2006) and near-IR images obtained with HST NICMOS.…”

“…For comparison we also plot points from the Hubble Deep FieldNorth (HDF-N, Fernández-Soto et al 1999) and Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF, Coe et al 2006) 4 for the extended magnitude range 23 < i 814 < 27, where both catalogues are redshift complete. The HDF-N data agree very well with the COSMOS fit over the whole extended range, on average to 2%.…”

“…As is discussed extensively in the literature (e.g., Vanzella et al 2001;Coe et al 2006), self-consistent magnitude measurements from band to band are extremely important to the SED fitting process. While the rewards of analyzing secondary quantities derived from SED fitting can be significant -stellar mass and rest-frame colors allow one to break degeneracies not possible when considering only observed-frame colors (e.g., Bell et al 2004;Bundy et al 2006;Lemaux et al 2012;Bradač et al, in prep.…”
