Abstract: Gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) have provided much needed image enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) important in the advancement of disease diagnosis and treatment. The paramagnetic properties of ionized gadolinium have facilitated these advancements, but ionized gadolinium carries toxicity risk.
