Fuzzy Multi-Objective Simulation-Optimization of Stepped Spillways Considering Flood Uncertainty

Abstract: The design of stepped spillways is a multi-objective optimization problem in which the uncertainty of parameters plays a key role in the stepped spillways' design. A Fuzzy Transformation Method (FTM), as a first attempt, was employed to address the uncertainty through a multi-objective optimization of the stepped spillway. The proposed methodology comprises two parts. A numerical model is developed by FLOW3D ® and the Multi-Layer Perceptron artificial neural network (MLP-ANN) meta-model was trained and validat… Show more

“…Wang and Liu (2012) improved the TOPSIS method using the Kullback-Leibler distance to evaluate the vulnerability to urban flood disasters in Harbin City, China. The TOPSIS method was also combined with other theories to analyze and explore the flooding impact (Liu et al 2018;Yang et al 2018;Alireza et al 2019;Mooselu et al 2019;Goodarzi, Banihabib, and Roozbahani 2019;Khosravi et al 2019).…”

“…In MOO problems, sources of uncertainty are design variables, environmental conditions (for example, flood flow for reservoir-related problems [118]), model parameters, etc. Integrating uncertainty in MOO problems is quite common.…”

“…Very few research works have been carried out using multi-objective optimization to simultaneously take into account both hydraulic and economic aspects. Example of such works, if not the only one, is presented in Mooselu et al (2019). It is based on coupling fuzzy multi-objective optimization with CFD simulation.…”
