Software producing organisations face the challenge of including new technology in their products, such as cloud technologies and database management systems. As software architects and senior developers are not experts in this domain, they need to consult external experts or acquire the knowledge themselves. Software production, therefore, is a suitable domain to deploy decision support systems, that intelligently support these decision-makers in selecting the desirable technology for their product. We present a decision support system that supports decision-makers in choosing the most suitable database technology. The case studies and experts confirm that the approach increases insight into the selection process, provides a richer prioritised option list than if they had done their research independently, besides reduces the time and cost of the decision-making process.

There is difficulty in knowing how to weigh the factors of software quality models so that decision-making can be eased. Furthermore, previous work was limited to undertake evaluation and selection of appropriate software quality model based upon multi-criteria in the context of smart health applications. This paper aims to evaluate and select an appropriate model of software quality based on multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) by three phases of framework. Firstly, investigation of software quality models and factors that were identified based on ‘fuzzy delphi’. Secondly, identification of quality models that have uniform multi-criteria so that a decision matrix could be established. Uniform multi-criteria were used in the decision matrix as the basis of the models of quality and the multi-criteria. Subsequently, MCDM approach is adopted and the bases used in the employment of the MCDM approach for the eva luation and selection of the software quality model were technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP). The results demonstrated that seven quality factors could be considered as the key factors based upon fuzzy delphi, i.e., usability, maintainability, reliability, interoperability, portability, modifiability, and efficiency. Also, reults shows that McCall is the most appropriate model.

Abstract-Every complex problem now days require multicriteria decision making to get to the desired solution. Numerous Multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approaches have evolved over recent time to accommodate various application areas and have been recently explored as alternative to solve complex software engineering problems. Most widely used approach is Analytic Hierarchy Process that combines mathematics and expert judgment. Analytic Hierarchy Process suffers from the problem of imprecision and subjectivity. This paper proposes to use Fuzzy AHP (FAHP) instead of traditional AHP method. The usage of FAHP helps decision makers to make better choices both in relation to tangible criteria and intangible criteria. The paper provides a clear guide on how FAHP can be applied, particularly in the software engineering area in specific situations. The conclusion of this study would help and motivate practitioners and researchers to use multi-criteria decision making approaches in the area of software engineering.
