Fuzzy monotone functions and applications

Abstract: The grade of membership function for fuzzy monotone functions is defined and investigated. An algorithm for finding the membership value is presented. A minterm even function and minterm odd function are defined and studied. It is found that these two functions are the two most alternation functions. The relationships with threshold functions are also presented. In addition, three ways to implement a fuzzy monotone increasing function are investigated. Applications to function representation, data compression … Show more

“…A number of methods of fuzzy controllers's synthesis (Arkhangelsky et al, 1997;Buckley, 1993;Kondratenko and Al Zu'bi, 2009;Mizumoto, 1995) have been developed to date. They provide the desired quality control in fuzzy systems by optimizing parameters of membership functions (Lee and Chou, 2001) of linguistic terms and by using different aggregation models (Piegat, 2001;Werners, 1988;Zimmermann and Zysno, 1980). As an objective function in the implementation of these methods an integral quadratic criterion or standard deviation of the real transition from desirable are usually used.…”

“…The fuzzy and monotone technologies are sometimes combined together in some applications. Edward [7] introduced the fuzzy monotone function, together with logic control applications. Many papers [8]- [21] have discussed the monotonicity property in the fuzzy inference system (FIS) including Mamdiani, TSK and etc.…”

“…Fuzzy logic functions (Dickerson and Kosko, 1993a, b, 1996; Lee, 1993; Lee and Chou, 1995, 2001) have attracted growing attention as promising avenues in fuzzy engineering (Kosko, 1997) and other related areas. More specifically, fuzzy monotone functions (Lee and Chou, 2001), fuzzy threshold functions (Lee and Chou, 1995) fuzzy symmetric functions (Lee, 1993) have been investigated.…”
