Fuzzy Logic Speed Controller of 3-Phase Induction Motors for Efficiency Improvement

Abstract: The paper presents an accurate loss model based controller of an induction motor to calculate the optimal air gap flux. The model includes copper losses, iron losses, harmonic losses, friction and windage losses, and stray losses. These losses are represented as a function of the air gap flux. By using the calculated optimal air gap flux compared with rated flux for speed sensorless indirect vector controlled induction motor, an improvement in motor efficiency is achieved. The motor speed performance is improv… Show more

“…The charging/discharging process of the PHEV batteries in this subsection was performed using the FLC. A comparison between FLC and PI controller response to a step changing reference signal was carried out, by one of the authors, in a previous work to show the fast response of FLC during speed step changing and load changing of electric drive compared with PI controller. Another work was presented by the authors using a PI controller with slow cloud transients .…”

“…As the number of MFs and rules size increase-d, good coverage of the fuzzy variables is obtained. Hence, IM drives perform well in specific system operations [18], [19]. The influence of rules size on drive performance has been investigated by different researchers, Betin et al [20] who discussed the influence of rules size on the performance of stepping motors by implementing the 9, 25, 49 rules size and the 81 rules size.…”
