Fuzzy Logic in Traffic Engineering: A Review on Signal Control

Abstract: Since 1965 when the fuzzy logic and fuzzy algebra were introduced by Lotfi Zadeh, the fuzzy theory successfully found its applications in the wide range of subject fields. This is mainly due to its ability to process various data, including vague or uncertain data, and provide results that are suitable for the decision making. This paper aims to provide comprehensive overview of literature on fuzzy control systems used for the management of the road traffic flow at road junctions. Several theoretical approache… Show more

“…For example, if the neutrosophic linear equation is 2Ix 1 + 3x 2 = 6 for I ∈ [1,2], then it indicates the indeterminate area between two lines 2x 1 + 3x 2 = 6 and 4x 1 + 3x 2 = 6, which can be represented as one neutrosophic function [2,4] x 1 + 3x 2 = 6, and then if the indeterminacy I ∈ [2,4] is considered as a possible interval range, then the neutrosophic linear equation can be also described as the indeterminate area between two lines 4x 1 + 3x 2 = 6 and 8x 1 + 3x 2 = 6 and be represented as another neutrosophic function [4,8] x 1 + 3x 2 = 6.…”

“…The condensed traffic flow along with the increasing number of vehicles is increasingly complex and uncertain in actual road traffic situations [1]. Since fuzzy logic and fuzzy algebra were introduced by Zadeh [2] in 1965, fuzzy theory has been successfully applied in a wide range of subject fields [1,3,4].…”

“…Researchers have been working on the use of numerous approaches for optimizing TST. Several good quality reviews have been written previously within the problem area of TST or TSC settings [9,10]. are the two most recently published survey papers published in the year 2015, covering different methodological areas utilized until 2014 in this problem field [9].…”
