Fusulines from the Central Asturian Coal? eld (Pennsylvanian, Cantabrian Zone, Spain) and their signi? cance for biostratigraphic correlation

“…The Moscovian strata of the Central Asturian Coalfi eld succession are particularly relevant as they reach up to 5000 m in total thickness and record both terrestrial (mega-and microfl ora) and marine fossils (among them, brachiopods and the stratigraphically significant fusulines and conodonts). Therefore, the Moscovian strata of the Central Asturian Coalfi eld have a great potential for the correlation of the chronostratigraphic units of western and eastern Europe Villa & Merino-Tomé, 2016;Merino-Tomé et al, 2017). Some papers (Martínez Díaz, 1970a, 1970b contain preliminary information and others have focused on sections exposing only parts of the potentially fusuline-productive succession Villa, 1995;Villa & Merino Tomé, 2016). Also relevant is the publication by van Ginkel (1973) who studied Hemifusulina species recovered from siliciclastic beds lying at diff erent levels throughout the upper part of the Central Asturian Coalfi eld succession.…”
