This study is focused on the behavior of the cream-firing clays from Opoczno region (Poland). The ceramic masses on which tests were carried out consisted of cream-firingBorkowice clay and dolomite in two different grain sizes as an additive that changes the color of ceramic materials. Test samples were prepared by plastic method and fired at range of 1100–1240 °C. Phase composition of theinvestigated materials was characterized by XRD method with quantitive analysis of the amorphous phase determined by the Retvield technique.Color properties of the surface of the obtained ceramic materials were determined in CIE-Lab color space. The phase composition of the obtained ceramics depends on the firing temperature. The color of the surface of the ceramic materials also depends on the firing temperature. There was a tendency to decrease the brightness, decrease the blue shade, and increase the yellow shade of the surface of materials with increasing the temperature. The conducted tests allowed to conclude that the color of ceramic materials depends on their phase composition. The most important role in the formation of color correspond to the amorphous phase, formed during the process. The lower content of the amorphous phase in the material allows to obtain brighter products with a lower proportion of yellow, and therefore closer to white. Moreover, following tests were carried out: total water absorption, total open porosity, linear shrinkage, and flexural strength. With increasing the temperature, total water absorption and total open porosity decrease, and total linear shrinkage increases due to the progressive sintering process. Flexural strength increases with the increase of the firing temperature for materials consisting of Borkowice clay. The addition of dolomite introduced new pores into the material, which resulted in an increase in flexural strength at lower firing temperatures and a decrease in flexural strength at higher firing temperatures.

Self‐optimization for smelting process of fused magnesium furnace based on operation status assessment

Based on operation status assessment and self‐optimizing regulation, an optimization strategy for the smelting process of a fused magnesium furnace is proposed to improve the benefits of smelting magnesia. In the online evaluation stage, according to the qualitative information, the data is divided by the fuzzy model recognition method, and then the posterior probability of online data in different Gaussian mixture models is calculated to obtain the evaluation results. When the evaluation results are not optimal, the non‐optimal variables are obtained by calculating the contribution rate, and then the self‐optimizing adjustment is carried out by case search. In order to improve the recovery rate of self‐optimizing regulation, a time series prediction method is used to predict the operation status, and the corresponding operation schemes for different prediction results are proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed method is accurate and effective.

En el presente trabajo de revisión se propone llevar adelante un análisis de la bibliografía relacionada al mineral dolomítico. El estado del arte de las dolomías indica al presente un uso creciente como material refractario debido a la alternativa más económica que representa en comparación con otros materiales como lo es el óxido de magnesio. La importancia de la dolomía aparte de su aplicación en la industria siderúrgica radica en que se ha expandido a otros campos industriales como lo es la producción de catalizadores, soportes de catalizadores, y materiales de depuración de efluentes industriales. La revisión se ha llevado a cabo extrayendo la síntesis de trabajos de investigación desde 1924 al presente, desde tres perspectivas: geológica, cerámica y refractaria, puesto que las revisiones de dolomía sólo analizan los aspectos refractario o geológico en forma separada. Dado este marco, se hace necesario un documento que agrupe las áreas mencionadas.
