Further Psychometric Evaluation of the Self-Stigma Scale-Short: Measurement Invariance across Mental Illness and Gender

Abstract: BackgroundThis study cross-validated the factor structure of the Self-Stigma Scale-Short (SSS-S) in a cohort of patients with mental illness in southern Taiwan. The measurement invariance of the SSS-S factor structure across mental illness and gender was also examined.MethodsThe sample consisted of 161 patients with schizophrenia (51.6% males; mean age ± SD = 40.53 ± 10.38 years) and 189 patients with other mental illnesses (34.9% males; mean age = 46.52 ± 11.29 years).ResultsThe internal reliability (total sc… Show more

“…1); that is, whether seizure severity and serum AED level can be replaced by the MARS-5 score to predict QoL. In addition, we have used several indices to examine the proposed model, including comparative fit index (CFI) and Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) N 0.9; root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) and standardized root mean square residual (SRMR) b 0.08 [26,27]. The results suggest that the model fits well with our data.…”

“…The cut‐offs for satisfactory fit were set at CFI and TLI >0.9, and RMSEA and SRMR <0.08 . Although an insignificant χ 2 ‐test also suggests a good data‐model fit, we intended not to use the criterion because of its oversensitivity to a large sample, In addition, the direct and indirect effects were tested using bootstrap methods. Specifically, we used the bias‐corrected bootstrap with 1000 bootstrap samples to calculate the 95% confidence intervals (CI), and the indirect effects occur when the confidence interval does not contain zero …”

“…The World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale-Brief version (WHOQOL-BREF) [40] is a 26-item self-report measure that assesses quality of life on the following 4 domains: physical health, psychological health, social relationships, and environment. The patient's experience of 8 quality indicators over the past 2 weeks was rated on a 5-point Likert response scale, with higher scores indicating a higher quality of life.…”
