“…Read, Ciocco and Taussig (1938) found that the frequency of rheumatic manifestations was significantly higher among the near relatives of a series of children affected with rheumatic disease than among the corresponding relatives of a control series of non-rheumatic children. Gauld, Ciocco and Read (1939) continued similar investigations, and suggested that hereditary constitution mav play a role in the predisposition to rheumatism. Roberts and Thomson (1934) were of the same opinion, although the incidence of the disease in the brothers and sisters of the series they described was small.…”
