“…A number of clinical syndromes have been described in association with islet-cell tumours which do not release insulin, e.g., peptic ulceration of the small intestine (Zollinger and Ellison, 1955), malabsorption syndrome (Maynard and Point, 1958), and diarrhoea and potassium depletion (Verner and Morrison, 1958;Parkins, 1961). An increased histamine excretion has been noted in some cases of the carcinoid syndrome (Sjoerdsma, Weissbach, Terry, and Udenfriend, 1957) No record has been found of the carcinoid syndrome in association with malignant atypical carcinoid of the rectum. Nevertheless, the carcinoid syndrome does occur in the non-argentaffin carcinoid of the bronchus and intestine and stomach (Snow, LennardJones, Curzon, and Stacey, 1955;Duncan, Garven, and Gibbons, 1955).…”
