“…There is evidence on the impairment of sleep spindles in schizophrenic patients that are in line with their altered brain pathophysiology (Ferrarelli et al, 2007). Both, a reduction of sleep spindle number and amplitude have further been reported in schizophrenics in which the underlying impaired thalamocortical communication and the link to concomitant memory impairments are well established (Ferrarelli et al, 2007, Ferrarelli and Tononi, 2017, Sasidharan et al, 2017, Schilling et al, 2017 and are in line with abnormal perceptions typical for schizophrenia (Vukadinovic, 2011). These findings in schizophrenia patients suggest a vital role of sleep spindles in memory consolidation processes impaired in such diseases.…”
