Fungal endophyte-derived Fritillaria unibracteata var. wabuensis: diversity, antioxidant capacities in vitro and relations to phenolic, flavonoid or saponin compounds

Abstract: Diverse fungal endophytes are rich fungal resources for the production of an enormous quantity of natural products. In the present study, 53 fungal endophytes were isolated from the bulbs of Fritillaria unibracteata var. wabuensis (FUW). Of these, 49 strains were identified and grouped into 17 different taxa, and priority was conferred to the Fusarium genus. All fungal fermented filtrates displayed antioxidant activities. The DPPH activity, total antioxidant capacities (ABTS), reduction power (FRAP), total phe… Show more

“…A DPPH-radical scavenging assay using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH; Sigma-Aldrich) was carried out as previously described [22] with some modifications. The DPPH reagent was freshly prepared in Methanol (0.04 mg/ml).…”

“…The assay was repeated three times. The percent scavenging ability for DPPH-radicals was calculated as described in Pan et al 2017 [22]. Additionally, a measure of half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) for 50% DPPH scavenging activity was carried out for standards and EA fraction of MUS1 by fitting a linear regression to DPPH scavenging curves respectively.…”

“…One of these fungal endophytes, Fusarium redolens 6WBY3 was capable of producing and secreting in the culture medium peimisine and imperialine-3β-D-glucoside whereas a second endophytic fungus was found to secrete peimisine and peiminine. Interestingly, a large number of the remaining endophytes were able to produce large amounts of antioxidants, such rosemarinic acid (Pan et al, 2014;Pan et al, 2015;Pan et al, 2017).…”
