Fundamental parameters and evolutionary state of the Herbig Ae star candidate HD 35929

Abstract: Abstract. HD 35929 is a pre-main-sequence Herbig Ae star candidate that exhibits emission in the Hα line and a weak IR excess. Although its luminosity type was estimated as  from low-resolution spectroscopy, the insignificant HIPPARCOS parallax (0.88 ± 0.93 mas) contradicted the low luminosity. To resolve this discrepancy, we took 3 high-resolution optical spectra of the star (region 5200-6915 Å, R ∼ 60 000) and used an archival one (4000-6800 Å, R ∼ 48 000). Our analysis of the spectral and photometric info… Show more

“…The spectrum of HD 35929 is consistent with the effective temperature and gravity determination of Miroshnichenko et al (2004, T eff = 6800 ± 100 K, log g = 3.3 ± 0.1). It displays a strong and narrow single-peaked emission profile in Hα, as well as emissions with central absorption in the Ca ii IR-triplet.…”

“…A few years ago we found two such objects, HD 19993 ( Miroshnichenko et al 2003b) and HD 35929 ( Miroshnichenko et al 2004). Our new findings suggest that the phenomenon occurs more frequently than just by chance.…”

“…In contrast to the other objects, the Br γ line in HD 32929 appears to be in absorption with a very broad extent in Figure 2, but after correction for the effect of photospheric absorption, we determine this line to be in emission. It should be noted that this object has also previously been classified as a post-main sequence star (Miroshnichenko et al 2004). A full study of the other atomic hydrogen lines mentioned here, and their diagnostic power, will be performed in a subsequent publication (Fairlamb et al in prep.…”
