Fundamental Conditions and Reaction Mechanisms in Formation of Phosphomolybdenum Blue

Abstract: The effects of acidity and molybdate concentration on the development of phosphomolybdenum blue have been studied in detail and the relationships among these three factors shown by a graph, called a “phosphomolybdenum blue color field” by the author. A further investigation was undertaken in order to explain the mechanisms of color development and the fundamental properties of reaction products under the optimum conditions established by the author for the determination of phosphate. The acidity and molybdate … Show more

“…For measurement of phosphate, the phosphomolybdenum blue method [19,20] was employed. First, a 0.02 mol L − 1 stock molybdate solution was prepared by dissolving 5.6 g of disodium molybdate dihydrate and 0.12 g of antimonyl potassium tartrate in ca.…”

“…The other four samples were diluted with water to 10% of seawater. The relative standard deviation (RSD) of weighing seawater was always CFA as a comparative method to IC-ICP-SFMS The phosphomolybdenum blue method (Murphy and Riley 1962;Namiki 1964) was employed in the phosphate measurement by CFA. The bracketing method used for this measurement was the same as that described in our previous paper (Cheong et al 2020); a sample was bracketed narrowly between two concentration levels of the phosphate standard solution based on the artificial seawater and analyzed using the short calibration curve.…”
