Functionalization of Delaminated Zeolite ITQ-6 for the Adsorption of Carbon Dioxide

Abstract: Novel functionalized adsorbents for CO(2) separation were synthesized by grafting 3-aminopropyl, 3-(methylamino)propyl, or 3-(phenylamino)propyl ligands in the delaminated zeolite ITQ-6. On the basis of the texture parameters determined from nitrogen adsorption isotherms recorded at 77 K and the results of chemical analysis, physicochemical properties of functionalized ITQ-6 were evaluated and compared with those of mesoporous SBA-15 silica functionalized with the same ligands. To examine carbon dioxide adsorp… Show more

“…materials. 24,89 In this regard, MOFs exhibited better possibility in terms of pore size tunability as compared to zeolites and activated carbons, 5 although contrary to what happened with zeolites eight decades ago, there has been no strong incentive so far for scientists and industrialists to put these unique and tunable materials into applications using rational synthesis and design. 18 The tunability of MOFs can be illustrated in the case when pores are deliberately functionalized for the purpose of increasing the affinity of one particular gas vs. another one or when the pore size is narrowed to exclude one molecule vs. another.…”

“…On the contrary, aminegrafting on zeolites resulted in an increase in CO 2 /N 2 selectivity, and more elevated heats of CO 2 adsorption implied a strong reduction in CO 2 capture capacity. Specifically, NH 2 -ITQ-2 showed exceptionally high CO 2 /N 2 selectivity combined with the best separation capacity among the studied MWW-type zeolites [157][158][159][160][161].…”

“…Layered materials can therefore be exfoliated into individual sheets of few-layered nanostructures providing many functional sites which have enormous interest as catalysts [43,44]. They have also been proposed for enzyme immobilization on their very high, hydroxylated and ordered external surface [45], adsorption of carbon dioxide by functionalization [46], and enhancing the selective properties of polymer membranes [35].…”
