Functional salivary reservoir in maxillary complete denture – technique redefined

Abstract: Key Clinical MessageComplete dentures are poorly tolerated in patients with xerostomia. A salivary reservoir can be incorporated into a denture that provides slow, sustained, and continuous release of salivary substitute. This article describes a simple, cost‐effective, and innovative technique of fabrication and designing of functional maxillary salivary reservoir complete denture.

“…[7,8] Research endeavors should focus on determining the minimum thickness required for reservoir walls to maximize size while preserving denture strength. [7][8][9] Evaluation of reservoir placement should be conducted individually for each case, with consideration for potential anterior placement in instances where posterior space is insufficient.…”

“…A variety of fabrication method has been described in the literature for reservoir denture. Joseph et al [8] and Shah et al [9] used 1mm thickness of thermoplastic sheet for the fabrication of lid on maxillary denture. Burhanpurwala et al [10] used snap-on buttons for orientation of two-piece mandibular reservoir denture along with clear acrylic tissue bearing plate to visualize the patient about the level of salivary substitute in the denture.…”
