“…Third-instar larvae of C. carnea showed a high predation capability; with 192 prey they consumed a mean of 79.6% of M. sacchari nymphs in 24 hours, while C. externa and C. comanche only consumed a mean of 66.6 and 64.9% in the same period, respectively. These results for C. carnea were greater than previously obtained for other aphids ( Brevicoryne brassicae (L.), Hyalopterus pruni (Geoffroy)), T. vaporariorum , and Pieris brassicae (Lepidoptera: Pieridae) (Atlihan et al 2004, Huang and Enkegaard 2010, Landeros et al 2013). This might have been because of the experimental arena used in our study, where a fresh disk of sorghum + M. sacchari was added, allowing the predators to find the prey in aggregates.…”

Sin embargo, se recomienda que la liberación de este depredador se realice cuando se presenten densidades bajas de la presa, porque este puede aumentar la búsqueda y eficiencia de manipulación, pudiendo gastar un poco más de tiempo con cada presa, logrando extraer el suficiente contenido nutricional, tal como lo afirman Landeros et al (18) en su evaluación de Chrysoperla carnea sobre huevos de T. vaporariorum.…”
