Functional polysaccharides from Grifola frondosa aqueous extract inhibit atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions in NC/Nga mice

Abstract: Grifola frondosa (GF), distributed widely in far east Asia including Korea, is popularly used as traditional medicines and health supplementary foods, especially for enhancing the immune functions of the body. To extend the application of GF polysaccharides (GFP) for atopic dermatitis (AD), we investigated the effects of GFP on the 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene-induced AD-like skin lesion in NC/Nga mice. GFP treatment significantly reduced the dorsa skin dermatitis score and combination treatment with GFP, and dexa… Show more

“…The effectiveness of the extract of G . lucidum BEOFB 431 basidiocarps, especially those obtained on wheat straw, can be particularly demonstrated by comparison with the inhibition potential of Inonotus mikadoi , one of the weakest species to inhibit tyrosinase, whose extract at 10.0 mg/ml inhibited only 46% of the enzyme …”

“…For typical therapeutic trials to moderate AD, corticosteroids such as dexamethasone are used in the treatment of many conditions, including skin diseases and severe allergies, but, the long-term use of corticosteroids may result in side effects. For this reason, an alternative is necessary for AD patients [28]. In this study, we examined whether NCM 1921, a combination of omega-3 butter, omega-3 beef tallow oil, omega-3 lard oil, caprylic acid, lauric acid, choline, and Fe, could improve AD symptoms, and investigated the underlying mechanism of action.…”

“…Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that is usually associated with redness, rash and severe itching caused by various environmental and physiological factors (Park et al, 2015a). This disease, in recent years, has been reported to be affecting 10-20% of children and 1-2% of adults.…”

“…The extract was known to suppress production of IL-4 and serum IgE level. Park et al (2015a) isolated a polysaccharides (GFP) from Grifola frondosa (Dicks.) Gray, and evaluated the ability of the isolated compound to suppress 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene-induced atopic dermatitis-like skin lesion in NC/Nga mice.…”
