Abstract:A single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) scan is a functional nuclear imaging technique performed to evaluate regional cerebral perfusion. Because cerebral blood flow is closely linked to neuronal activity, the activity distribution is presumed to reflect neuronal activity levels in several areas of the brain. Although structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) provide exquisite anatomical detail, SPECT provide complementary functional information. Frequently, brain pa… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
