Abstract:In bacteria, the biosynthesis of the cofactor flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), important in many physiological responses, is catalyzed by the bifunctional enzyme FAD synthase (FADSyn) which converts riboflavin into FAD by both kinase and adenylylation activity.
