Functional characterization and evolution of PTH/PTHrP receptors: insights from the chicken

Abstract: BackgroundThe parathyroid hormone (PTH)-family consists of a group of structurally related factors that regulate calcium and bone homeostasis and are also involved in development of organs such as the heart, mammary gland and immune system. They interact with specific members of family 2 B1 G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), which have been characterised in teleosts and mammals. Two PTH/PTHrP receptors, PTH1R and PTH2R exist in mammals and in teleost fish a further receptor PTH3R has also been identified. Re… Show more

“…The overall gene structure of these fish PTH family members closely resembles that of higher vertrebrate species. Receptors for PTH and PTHrP seem to predate vertebrate radiation 92 but probably related to PTHrP and not to PTH actions. PTH genes probably originated from a common ancestor with PTHrP gene by gene duplication in teleost fish.…”

“…PTH genes probably originated from a common ancestor with PTHrP gene by gene duplication in teleost fish. 92 Fish PTH(1-34) can stimulate cAMP generation in vitro in human osteoblast-like cells and stimulates calcium resorption from fish scales. 93 The primary role of these key hormones is to maintain serum or extracellular calcium homeostasis rather than bone homeostasis as discussed elsewhere in this issue and in several other reviews 94,95 .…”

“…Orthologs of the PTHR1 can be detected in species as distant as fish and birds (Cardoso et al, 2006;Bhattacharya et al, 2011;Suzuki et al, 2011;Pinheiro et al, 2012), and a sequence with some 50% amino acid identity to the human PTHR1 is apparent in the genome of the sea squirt Ciona intestinalis (Kamesh et al, 2008) (Fig. 6A).…”

“…Между рН эякулята, показателями вязкости и объема эякулята установлена отрицательная сред-ней силы связь с концентрацией ионов цинка. Та-ким образом, тщательный мониторинг функцио-нального статуса сперматозоидов и нейтрофильных гранулоцитов семенной жидкости, изучение их из-менений на структурном уровне, а также установле-ние ранее неизученных биохимических параметров должно стать одной из приоритетных задач дерма-товенерологии [17][18][19]. Примечание.…”
