Functional Characteristics and Physical Properties of Spray Dried Starch Inclusion Complexes with Drugs

Abstract: Starch systems containing bioactive compounds (ibuprofen, acetylsalicylic acid, paracetamol, myristic acid) are produced in a pilot plant scale spray dryer. The obtained powders are characterized in terms of their physical properties namely moisture, solubility, bulk and tapped density, suspensibility, hygroscopicity, cohesiveness, flowability, and particle size. The effect of spray drying processing parameters and storage relative humidity on the physical properties of powders is investigated. Light microscop… Show more

“…[ 35,64 ] Considering that corn starch and pregelatinized corn starch have the same content of amylose, the observed differences are presumably related to the absence of starch granules, in the pregel starch, which when present hinder the interaction of guest molecules with amylose trapped inside the granules. This could be further verified from the results obtained from our previous studies [ 36–39 ] and optical microscopic analysis (Section 3.5). Similar observations on TS at high glycerol content were also reported by Tang et al., [ 65,66 ] Mansour et al., [ 41,42 ] and Tarique et al.…”
