Fullerene Nanoparticles Using Technol PG for Inexpensive Preparation

Abstract: Fullerene has attracted much attention for applications in biomaterials because of its high antioxidant activity. In this study, C60 and C70 fullerenes were mixed with a commercially available anionic phospholipid mixture, Technol PG, and sodium cholate, resulting in effective dispersion of the fullerenes to give small-sized fullerene nanoparticles.

“…Previously, our group determined that mixtures of Technol PG (Figure 1b) and sodium cholate (SC; Figure 1c) can effectively disperse bioactive compounds such as resveratrol 6 and fullerene. 7 These prior studies also established that TiO 2 nanoparticles can be dispersed by a mixture of Technol PG and SC. In a typical procedure for surface coating of TiO 2 nanoparticles (Figure 2a), quantities of Technol PG powder (5.0 wt%), SC (2.0 wt%), and TiO 2 nanoparticles (0.1 wt%) were dispersed in water with ultrasonication for 2 min.…”

“…Technol PG is a mixture of anionic phosphatidyl glycerols that can be obtained commercially from the Yokozeki Company and is less expensive than conventional anionic phosphatidyl glycerols. Previously, our group demonstrated that mixtures of Technol PG and SC allowed the effective dispersion of bioactive compounds such as fullerene, 12 resveratrol, 13 and cannabidiol. 14 These prior studies confirmed that MnO 2 particles could also be dispersed using this mixture of Technol PG and SC.…”
