Full-Wave Analysis and Design of Broadband Turnstile Junctions

Abstract: Abstract-The efficient design of broadband turnstile junctions compensated with piled-up cylindrical metallic posts is discussed in this contribution. Very high relative bandwidths can be obtained, while maintaining the diameter of the input circular access port lower than the width of the rectangular waveguide ports, thus reducing the number of excited higher order circular waveguide modes. A novel full-wave analysis tool has also been implemented in order to reduce the CPU effort related to the complete desi… Show more

“…Regarding the input matching of the turnstile junction, very good performance has been achieved using two cylinders (Fig. 5) which keep the structure's symmetry [12], but square [13] or other geometries [14] or a third or fourth cylinder in the turnstile junction [15] can also be adopted. The convenient choice among alternative geometries mainly depends upon mechanical manufacturing process.…”

“…With the ever-increasing expectations imposed on modern-day circuits, however, microwave designers may nowadays have to seek recourse to novel components with five or more ports [4][5][6] in order to meet more complex functional requirements. In particular, various six-port components [7][8][9][10][11][12][13] have already been attracting the attention of researchers who utilized a diversity of numerical techniques to develop computer models for predicting their performance characteristics.…”

“…Several design variants of OMT are described by different researchers [1][2][3][4][5][6] that include slot-coupled branching OMT with stepped transformer, slot-coupled branching OMT with continuous taper function, slot-coupled septum branching OMT, probe-coupled OMT with taper transformer, probe-coupled septum branching OMT, OMT with short plate etc..…”
