Ein direktives Führungsverhalten ist im Orchester einerseits aus Gründen der Koordination notwendig; andererseits ist jedoch mit negativen motivationalen Sekundäreffekten bei den geführten Orchestermusikern zu rechnen. “…In contrast to performance quality in the music theater (Boerner and Jobs ; Boerner et al ), artistic quality in orchestras as a leadership outcome has rarely been investigated in previous leadership research (Hiller et al ) . Building on previous studies (Boerner ; Boerner and Krause ; Boerner et al ), the present study gathered facets of the reactions to the quality of the orchestra, such as the resonance of the audience, the reactions by the press/critics, guest soloists’ assessments, the conductors’ assessments, and musicians’ assessments (operationalized by their personal quality expectations, individual musical skills, musical skills of the whole orchestra, and the overall judgment). “…Research on leadership in orchestras has been silent (Boerner and Gebert , 347, Hunt, Stelluto, and Hooijberg , 148; Koivunen and Wennes , 53). To date, there have been only a handful studies that investigate the impact of different forms of leadership attributes (who the leader is) and leadership behaviors (what the leader does) of an orchestra conductor on the musicians and/or the artistic performance of the orchestra (Allmendinger and Hackman ; Atik ; Boerner and Krause ; Boerner, Krause, and Gebert , ; Boerner and von Streit ; Koivunen ; Koivunen and Wennes ; Köping ; Ladkin ; Rowold and Rohmann ). These studies use different conceptualizations of leadership and different approaches (see Atik ) to analyze the phenomenon of leadership in the orchestra context.…”
