Abstract: Fucoidans are sulfated polysaccharides detected mainly in the cell walls of brown seaweeds. Here, we examined the effects of single doses of fucoidan derived from Ericaria crinita (formerly Cystoseira crinita) on carrageenan-induced paw inflammation in rats. The serum levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-10 of rats with LPS-induced systemic inflammation after 14 days of treatment were also evaluated. Subchronic treatment with fucoidan from E. crinita attenuated the inflammation during the late phase of the deg… Show more

“…The experiment was performed as described previously [59] with slight modifications. Male Wistar rats (weight 150-180 g) were divided into six groups (n = 8) and treated as follows: controls received saline (0.1 mL/100 g bw); positive controls (diclofenac) received diclofenac sodium in a dose of 25 mg/kg bw; and experimental groups 3, 4, and 5 received 250, 400, and 500 mg/kg bw dried methanolic extract of M. frivaldszkyana dissolved in water, respectively; group 6 received a solution of RA in saline at a dose of 30 mg/kg.…”

“…In the last decades, it has gained popularity as a remedy for migraine prophylaxis [7][8][9][10][11]. Recently, many efforts have been directed towards researching natural products with health-beneficial effects [12]. According to different studies, T. parthenium extracts exhibit anti-nociceptive [13][14][15], antioxidant [13,[16][17][18][19][20][21], antibacterial [22], insecticidal [23], anti-inflammatory, neuromodulatory, antispasmodic, and uterine stimulant activity [24,25].…”

“…5 Carrageenan-induced paw swelling of mice is a typical model of acute inflammation and is commonly used to assess or screen the anti-inflammatory effects of drugs. 6 Injection of carrageenan into mice paws induces many responses parallel to those of acute inflammation in humans, such as local capillary dilation, increased vascular permeability and edema. The model is widely used in the evaluation of the efficacy of anti-inflammatory drugs.…”
