Fruit characteristics, phytochemical and antioxidant properties of blueberry ash (Elaeocarpus reticulatus)

Abstract: Blueberry ash (Elaeocarpus reticulatus Sm.) fruit has potential for human nutrition, but there is limited information on this fruit. This preliminary study aimed to characterise blueberry ash fruit and examine the influence of extraction solvents on its phytochemical and antioxidant properties. Blueberry ash fruit is dark blue in colour and is a stone fruit of small size (7 mm) and light weight (0.2 g). However, it has a high portion of flesh (60% of fruit weight), which is edible and can be a potential source… Show more

“…These findings recommend 85% of the antioxidant capacity of E. ganitrusis by flavonoid components (Bharti, 2013). The organic solvents had been a significant presence of higher levels of total phenolic, flavonoid, and Proanthocyanidins (Vuong et al, 2018). Similarly seed was showed high level of Phenolic and flavonoid (Bhatt and Dahal, 2019).…”

“…Mature Gac fruit samples were selected from central markets in Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam. After cleaning, the pulp was separated, sliced, and freeze-dried using an industrial freeze-dryer model LyoBeta 35 (Telstar Technologies, Valencia, Spain) for 24 h. Lemon myrtle extract, blueberry ash fruit extract, and macadamia peel extract were prepared according to the methods described by Saifullah, McCullum, McCluskey and Vuong [30], Vuong, Ngoc Thuy Pham, Vu, Dang, Van Ngo and Chalmers [31] and Dailey and Vuong [32].…”

“…Acetone extract of this fruit contains high levels of total phenolic content (104 mg GAE/g) and flavonoid (155 mg RUE/g). The free radical scavenging efficiency of E. recurvatus bark extract was reported (Kumar et al, 2007;Lakshmiet al, 2016;Vuong et al, 2018;Sharma et al, 2021).…”
