Sejak visi 2030 dideklarasikan, Arab Saudi berupaya keras membentuk citra sebagai negara modern khususnya di tengah negara barat. Akan tetapi, citra baru yang sedang dibangun Arab Saudi tersebut berpotensi merusak soft powernya yang telah terbangun di tengah dunia Islam. Moderasi Islam yang dipromosikan Arab Saudi dianggap sebagai upaya dalam menyeimbangkan antara citra modern yang sedang dibangun dengan citra keIslaman yang ingin dipertahankan. Citra sebagai negara konservatif dan lekat dengan paham Salafisme menjadi kontradiktif dengan narasi moderasi Islam yang ditawarkanya. Artikel jurnal ini bertujuan menjelaskan bagaimana moderasi Islam sebagai sebuah bentuk diplomasi publik Arab Saudi diimplementasikan di Indonesia. Melalui konsep diplomasi publik, terlihat bahwa pola Arab Saudi dalam mempromosikan narasi moderasi Islam di Indonesia menekankan upaya membangun dialog publik secara langsung. Hal itu dilakukan dengan aktif menginisiasi beberapa konferensi yang disponsori Arab Saudi dalam menyampaikan pesan-pesan moderasi Islam yang melibatkan cendekiawan, politisi, serta alumni di Indonesia.

The Intention of Becoming Religiously Moderate in Indonesian Muslims: Do Knowledge and Attitude Interfere?

As religious moderation is becoming one of the alternative solutions to prevent religious extremism behavior in Indonesian Muslims, research regarding becoming religiously moderate is essential. This research aimed to (1) construct Islamic Religious Moderation Intentions instruments. Intentions are usually shaped by knowledge and attitudes. For this reason, we also (2) constructed the instrument of Islamic Religious Moderation Knowledge and Islamic Religious Moderation Attitudes. Finally, we tried to (3) discover the intention of becoming religiously moderate in Indonesian Muslims by testing the knowledge and attitudes of religiously moderate. The participants consisted of 305 Indonesian Muslims from any religious organizational affiliation. First, we constructed the instruments from the theoretical definition of knowledge, attitudes, and intentions. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to validate the instruments. Moreover, the hypothesis was tested with multiple regression analysis. This research found three valid instruments regarding Islamic religious moderation: (1) Islamic Religious Moderation Knowledge, (2) Islamic Religious Moderation Attitudes, and (3) Islamic Religious Moderation Intentions. The hypothesis test results show a significant influence of knowledge and attitudes in forming religious moderation intentions in Indonesian Muslims. Therefore, to have any intentions of becoming a moderate Muslim, one should know “what Islamic moderation is” and have a positive attitude toward Islamic moderation. Further dissemination regarding religious moderation should be put into action to increase the knowledge and attitudes in Indonesian Muslim society.

Many studies have cited the massiveness of radical understanding among students in universities. Not only students from public universities, but also come from religious colleges such as UIN and IAIN. Therefore, this study aims; first, to analyze the hadith interpretation of Islamic moderates among students. Second, knowing the implementation of indications of religious moderates among students. Third, knowing the implications of the interpretation of Islamic moderates among students on the inversion-radicalization movement in Indonesia. All interview questions refer to the four pillars of indication of religious moderation initiated by the MORA, namely national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and acceptance of local culture. This type of study is qualitative, and the approach chosen is hadith-phenomenological. The method used in this study consists of three main methods. First, the descriptive method; second, the critic-analysis method; third, the critic-analysis-reflective. The results of this study provide information that the interpretation of Islamic moderatism among students has a variety of languages interpreted by each student. As for interpreting the hadith, many of them still do not understand and understand the content of the hadith. Based on the questionnaire and interview data, none of the students were free from indications of radicalism. The implications of these findings provide clues to the importance of fostering and socializing ideologies and instilling attitudes of moderation among students.
