From simple Katritzky salts to AIEgens: mechanochromic luminescence and heparin detection

Abstract: A series of novel AIEgens based on Katritzky pyridinium salts were readily synthesized and exhibited interesting aggregation-induced emission behaviors, remarkable mechanochromic luminescence, and promising heparin detection.

“…DBON is a water soluble dye with a typical aggregation-induced-emission (AIE) behavior. [48][49][50][51][52] The fluorescent emission of DBON in water is rather weak, but it can be significantly enhanced upon the association with negatively charged PE. [53] Thus, it offers inherent fluorescence labeling of PECs and facilitates the characterization of the complex by fluorescence microscopy.…”

“…Herein, we have synthesized a series of multicyclic conjugated polymers by polymerization of telechelic discrete π-conjugated macrocycles. Based on intermolecular McMurry coupling, conjugated macrocycles with the tetraphenylethylene (TPE) moiety 22 in the cyclic scaffold and designated chlorine atoms at the apex as polymerization sites were synthesized as telechelic cyclic monomers. Through poly-condensation polymerization, bridged multicyclic conjugated polymers were readily obtained.…”

“…Organic fluorescent materials have broad application prospects in the fields of optoelectronic devices, fluorescence sensing, biological imaging, high-efficiency lighting, and disease diagnosis and treatment. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] In the field of organic light-emitting materials research, exploring novel systems with simple structures and high performance has remained in focus. [8][9][10][11][12][13] Luminogens with AIE features (AIEgens) have attracted extensive attention in the past two decades, owing to their superior photophysical properties compared to the traditional luminescent systems, which exhibit the aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect.…”
